Unemployment rate on the rise again in Nevada, August rates released
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The unemployment rate for the month of August in Nevada is 12.1 percent statewide. This is a slight increase from 12% in July.
Despite the rise, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says that year-over-year improvement is evident.
DETR reports that employment fell on a month-over-month basis every month this summer, resulting in a summer decline of 3,600 jobs.
Because of that, Nevada's over-the-year employment comparison appears less impressive.
But, the DETR says that Nevada still has 5,200 more jobs than in August of last year.
The unemployment rate for the Las Vegas-Paradise area was 12.1%; 11.5% in Reno-Sparks; 11.6% in Carson City; and 6.1% in the Elko micropolitan area.
The current unemployment rate for the nation is 8.1%. California's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate is 10.7%.
