Storm causes major flooding throughout the Valley
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Heavy rain moved through the Valley Tuesday afternoon flooding many areas, especially east of the city.
County officials say firefighters rescued more than 50 people from their cars. The fire department responded to about 40 swift water rescue calls, including one of the most significant at Sahara and Sloan. Officials say about 15 people were rescued from their cars in that area with the assistance of firefighters and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's helicopter. There were no reports of any injuries.
Nevada Highway Patrol closed down part of the 215 from Interstate 15 to Warm Springs because of severe flooding Tuesday afternoon.
NV Energy says initially about 13,000 people were without power with a majority of those being in North Las Vegas. As of 5 p.m., NV Energy reports that number has dropped to about 1,500 as crews work to restore power.
The Regional Justice Center closed early to non-essential personnel according to a Clark County Courts. If you have official business you are asked to enter through the south gate. The RJC is expected to reopen as normal Wednesday.
