Locals react to disappointing August jobs report

CREATED Sep. 8, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One of the biggest issues in the race for the White House is jobs.

The August jobs report is out and it's disappointing. Nationally, only 96,000 jobs were added in August, short of the expected 130,000.

At the JobConnect office in Las Vegas, people know about the lack of jobs all too well.

"I've been in the system here and been registered a couple years," said one job seeker.

Another adds, "I was laid off two weeks ago; I was working at a doctor's office."

Republicans say the reason so many struggle, is because the current administration had failed. But people Action News spoke with didn't want to point fingers at President Obama.

In November, many people may vote for a change in the White House. But at least one person Action News spoke with said the change needs to happen at the employer level.

The national unemployment rate fell from 8.3 to 8.1 in August. But economists say that's because some people have given up looking for work.
