Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- City leaders are gearing up for a big weekend in downtown Las Vegas.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to turn out for several events during the first weekend in September.

Downtown Las Vegas will be abuzz with First Friday, the annual Harvest Festival and the 2012 Pride Parade.

Safety is one of the main concerns for local authorities.

"While most everybody there is there to have a good time and they are good folks, there are those that will come to this event and they will look to prey on people who are unsuspecting," aid Lt. Jason Letkiewicz with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Metro is used to handling large crowds and say they'll have both uniformed and plane-clothed officers on duty.

"Las Vegas is a very diverse city,"  Lt. Letkiewicz said. "We have a lot of very diverse events and we are used to dealing with them."

Mayor Carolyn Goodman says events like these are part of what makes Las Vegas the entertainment capital of the world.
