Murder suspect lawyer opposes Las Vegas police videos

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The attorney for a man accused of two cold-case rape-slayings wants Las Vegas police to take down online videos in which an officer describes her client as an "animal" and a "serial killer."

Alzora Jackson filed the motion Thursday in an arraignment hearing for 65-year-old Nathan Burkett. Jackson says the police videos could prejudice a jury.

Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman didn't rule on the motion. The police department didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Burkett is charged with murder and sexual assault in the deaths of 22-year-old Barbara Ann Cox, in 1978 and 27-year-old Tina Gayle Mitchell in 1994. Police say they linked Burkett to the crimes while reviewing cold-case homicides.

Burkett pleaded guilty in 2004 to the 2002 strangulation of a woman in Las Vegas.
