Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas fire dispatchers received numerous calls at about 4:27 a.m. Thursday regarding heavy smoke in the Desert Shores community, near West Cheyenne Avenue and Rampart Boulevard in northwest Las Vegas.
According to Tim Szymanski of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, one of the members of the community drove around the neighborhood looking for the fire until smoke was spotted coming from an upstairs window of a house in the 2900 block of Harbor Cove Drive.
A fire engine and battalion chief happened upon the source at the same. Firefighters had to force entry into the home and found it full of thick smoke and extreme heat.
Fire crews were able to locate the source on the first floor. Unfortunately, the fire had already spread to the second floor via a staircase and the damage to the interior of the home was extensive from smoke and heat.
Neighbors told firefighters that two women lived in the home but firefighters were unable to locate them.
Damage is estimated at $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
