Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A former hockey player is facing several charges after allegedly sexually assaulting an underage girl.

Police arrested Mike McBain last month after they say the victim told her mother, who confronted McBain until he confessed.

McBain is accused of sexually assaulting the girl beginning in 2008. The victim is now 16 years old.

McBain met his alleged victim when he began dating her mother. He was a Las Vegas Wrangler's hockey player at the time.

The alleged assault continued when McBain retired and became an assistant coach for the Wranglers.

McBain left for Oregon to stay with his brother, where police say he attempted suicide by taking several pills. He later reportedly confessed to the crimes to the victim's mother.

McBain turned himself in to the Clark County Detention Center on July 5.

He faces 12 charges including sexual assault with a minor and lewdness with a minor.
