Dirty Dining: The Griddle on South Durango

Dirty Dining: The Griddle on South Durango

By Darcy Spears. CREATED Jul 11, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A repeat offender in this week's Dirty Dining. Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears heads to The Griddle to see how things are stacking up.

Things are sizzling once again at The Griddle with their newly-acquired "A" grade.

Contact 13 arrived about an hour after they were re-inspected.

But the Health District's previous visit on June 29 was a far cry from what we found.

The breakfast joint on South Durango near Warm Springs was one demerit away from closure.

The Health District's pictures show lots of stuff was sticky and dirty -- from the juicer to the microwave to the shelves to the floors.

"It was a reminder.  It was a wake-up call.  And we're back on top again."

Manager Baha Emamzadeh had nothing to hide when Contact 13 showed up asking questions about what inspectors found.

Darcy: Spoiled milk, fuzzy tomatoes and a cutting board with black stains.  Yucky.
Baha: We threw the cutting boards away, got brand new cutting boards.

He says they threw away all the bad food too and are keeping better track of expiration dates.

Things also look better in the fridge, where inspectors found cut tomatoes in direct contact with the dirty bottom, and exposed turkey touching shelving.

"When they get in a rush, they just don't fold things back up like how they're supposed to or they forget about something, so from now on we've come up with a daily cleaning plan," Baha explained.

There was no sneeze guard at the toast and butter station so you'd better hope no one had a cold.

Darcy: You don't want anybody sneezing on the toast.
Baha: No, we don't.  That's gross.  We don't want anybody sneezing on the pancakes, so, everything's back up to par.

Speaking of gross, the words "vomiting, diarrhea and infected cuts" are prominently displayed in the kitchen because employees couldn't name all those symptoms when they were quizzed by the health inspector.
Darcy: So there's no way they can forget that now?
Baha: Not at all.  It's pretty bold.  We keep it in their face.  If you got this, you're not working.

They've also cleaned out the freezer where inspectors found raw chicken leaking juices and threatening a case of blueberries. And there are no more soiled towels on the prep table.

Darcy: Are we ever gonna see you guys on Dirty Dining again?  You don't want a three-peat do you?
Baha: No! I do not want that!  We do not want that and we want to be on for good news instead of bad news.
