Las Vegas named most affordable city for travelers by TripAdvisor
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- TripAdvisor has named Las Vegas as the most affordable city for travelers in its annual TripIndex.
The TripIndex is a cost comparison of accommodations and an evening out on the town around the world and in 15 hot spots in the United States, tracked against the U.S. dollar.
Research shows that Europe is the most expensive destination with seven of the world’s priciest cities, and for the second year in a row the Southern U.S. is the top region for travelers looking for a domestic deal.
Based on the combined cost of one night’s accommodation (four star hotel), dinner for two (starter, main course, bottle of house wine), two alcoholic drinks (dry martini), and a taxi journey in each destination, Las Vegas was ranked as the most affordable city in the United States for domestic travelers, coming in at a total of $263 on the TripIndex ranking.
Other cities in the top five included Dallas, $283.10; New Orleans, $283.44; Atlanta, $289.80; and Orlando, $309.10.
New York City barely beat Boston as the costliest U.S. city at a cost of $457. Boston's TripIndex cost was $450.
Hanoi, Vietnam was the most affordable travel spot globally for U.S. travelers with a cost of $141. Beijing, China came in #2 globally with a cost of $159.05. London was the priciest global city at a cost of $518.
Europe is the most expensive continent for U.S. travelers.
