Memorial Day ceremonies in the valley

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Memorial Day will be observed at various locations today around the Las Vegas valley.

The first will take place at 9 a.m. at Palm Mortuary on North Main Street in downtown Las Vegas.

The 48th annual Memorial Day Service will be attended by Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Senator Dean Heller and U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley.

Singer-songwriter Clint Holmes will also perform.

Bunker's Historic Woodlawn Cemetery's annual Memorial Day Observance will begin at 9:30 a.m. V.F.W. Post 1753 will host the event. Woodlawn is located at 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

The Southern Nevada Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Buchanan Boulevard in Boulder City will be the site of a ceremony at 1 p.m. today.

Senator Harry Reid, U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley and former Gov. Jim Gibbons are scheduled to attend.

The ceremony will begin with a presentation of colors and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by recognition of veterans in attendance.

Boulder City musician Phil Esser will sing. The Nevada Opera Theatre Chorus and Peoples Valley Chorus will also perform.

The ceremony is hosted by the Military Order of the Purple Heart in collaboration with the cemetery, the Cemetery Advisory Committee and the Cemetery Volunteer Group.
