GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) -- Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park say they've recovered a body of a man from below the South Rim.

Officials received witness reports shortly after noon Tuesday about someone falling over the canyon's edge at Pipe Creek Vista.

Rangers rappelled over the edge and began finding evidence of a fall and then located a man's body about 600 feet below the rim.

The body was lifted to the rim by rope and taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.

Park officials say the man's name is being withheld pending positive identification and his relatives being notified.

National Park Service officials are investigating the death.
