5 LVMPD officers on leave following suspect shooting
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Five Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers are on paid administrative leave after shooting a suspected car thief early Saturday morning.
It happened at Jones and Smoke Ranch around 1:45 a.m. A man called police to report that a woman he knew had stolen his car and that his firearm was inside.
Police tracked the car to a parking lot. Officers tried to get the woman out of the car, but negotiators couldn't talk her out at first.
When she finally did get out of the vehicle, after two hours of negotiations, Metro says she pointed a gun at officers and five officers opened fire.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
The names of the officers involved won't be released for 48 hours, which is standard Metro policy.
