Clark County wants more parking at Vegas welcome sign

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Clark County officials want to triple the number of parking spaces in front of the iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the county commission plans to pay $500,000 to add parking to the 53-year-old sign at the south end of the Strip.
The popular picture-taking destination became easier to access after a parking lot was added to the median. But county public works director Denis Cederburg says there are still long lines of tourists and more space is needed.
Commissioner Steve Sisolak says he's received complaints about groups cutting in the lines because companies selling wedding packages promise photos by the sign.
Cederburg says county staff will consider signs saying no group has special privileges in the line.
