Little League gathers to remember 8-year old player
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A celebration of life was held on the same field where an 8-year old little league player died suddenly this week.
Those who knew young Spencer Melvin put on a brave face as they returned to Rainbow Park, for a fundraiser held by Peccole Little League.
“If you know him and knew how he was, this is going to be really hard to get through, “ said Eric Nichols, Vice President of Peccole Little League.
With tongs in hand they served spaghetti for a small price to support the Melvin family, still distraught over their son's untimely death.
The little league hoped to raise $5,000 over the course of the day, but in just two hours, they had far surpassed that.
Many parents, like Wendy Feiner, could see themselves in the Melvin family's shoes and felt compelled to give.
“Even though it's not a whole lot that I donated it was something, and it going to help out, Feiner said. “Just a wonderful thing, everyone coming together to support a family in need is really special.”
