Crash victim speaks out in court

By Jessica Janner. CREATED Apr 2, 2012

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 15-year-old Bonanza High student, Conan Obenchain, appeared in court today. Obenchain is in a wheelchair after being hit by a car while he was waiting for a bus in early February.

Obenchain spoke to the judge about what little he could, saying he remembers nothing from the crash only "waking up at UMC center...in the hospital" three days later.

The woman driving the car that hit Obenchain, 26-year-old Noel Lardeo, faces felony charges for DUI causing severe bodily harm.

Lardeo, a first grade teacher who worked at Roger M. Bryan Elementary School, failed a field sobriety test at the time of the crash.

Today, April 2, 2012 a preliminary hearing was held for Lardeo at the Regional Justice Center.

Proceedings were cut short because the State of Nevada had paperwork the defense team did not have. The prelim hearing will continue Wednesday.
