Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A state senator is calling for a special legislative session to address homeowners association issues after the deaths of two key figures in the massive scheme to defraud HOAs of millions of dollars.
David Amesbury and Nancy Quon died earlier this month.
Amesbury was found dead from an apparent suicide by hanging just five days after Quon was found dead in the bathtub of her condominium in Henderson.
Although the official cause of both deaths won't be known for weeks until tests are complete, authorities believe the deaths are either suicide or accidental and do not suspect foul play.
Federal prosecutors say both were involved in rigging HOA board elections. They say that members were put on the board to steer construction defect contracts to other conspirators.
State Sen. Mike Schneider says he wants lawmakers to tighten laws that govern homeowners association and construction defect litigation.
Gov. Brian Sandoval has rejected the proposal of a special session.
