Suspect arrested in death of man found during February fire
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have arrested 42-year-old Patrick Wilcock as a suspect in the death of man that was discovered during a fire on Feb. 25 on Del Mar Street.
Clark County Fire Department responded to a fire at about 8:47 p.m. on Feb. 25 after receiving a 911 call.
Upon entry of one of the condo units that was on fire, firefighters located a deceased male in a reclining chair in the family room.
The body was believed to be that of the tenant, James Lacella. Trauma was visible to the head of the victim and homicide detectives were requested to investigate.
During the autopsy, it was discovered that the body had already started to decompose. It was determined that the victim died from a gunshot to a head.
One of those people interviewed was Lacella's on-and-off again roommate, Jeff Morelli. Morelli had seen Lacella a few days before but was staying with a friend when the fire occurred.
Morelli gave the police information on the suspect. Police were then able to match some of the stolen items to Wilcock through pawn shop records.
Another person told police that she had given Wilcock a small handgun for protection a couple of months earlier.
Patrick Wilcock was arrested by LVMPD on March 9. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
