CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- The Nevada Department of Corrections has joined the state's automated victim notification system.

The system known as VINE allows victims and others to be immediately notified whenever an inmate is transferred, released, or escapes from custody.

Victims can track the custody of an inmate and register to be notified by phone or email when the status of an offender changes.

Corrections officials announced the service on Thursday. They say the department joins 13 county jails that use the statewide system.

Nevada is also the 43rd corrections department in the country to include the system as a resource to help crime victims.
