Thousands of visitors ring in 2012 with fireworks show in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- With more than 300,000 New Year's Eve revelers and the biggest fireworks show in America, Las Vegas welcomed 2012 with a bang.
Fireworks were lit off from eight properties on the Strip, from the Stratosphere all the way to the Tropicana in a show lasting more than eight minutes.
Police reported 23 arrests on the Las Vegas Strip and two on Fremont Street as of 11 p.m., but said celebrations remained relatively calm.
The LVCVA predicted hotels on the Strip would reach 98 percent capacity as guests took advantage of the holiday falling on a weekend.
Action News reported live from multiple locations on the Strip as well as from the Fremont Street Experience, where nearly 30,000 people counted down to midnight.
Downtown Las Vegas celebrated with rock tribute shows featuring 12 bands on three stages, along with a spectacular light show.
Several celebrities joined the festivities in Sin City. Reality mogul Kim Kardashian hosted at Tao, Stevie Wonder performed at the Cosmopolitan, Kanye West DJ'd at 1OAK at the Mirage, and several other stars made appearances at Strip properties.
Along with 1OAK, New Year's Eve marked the opening of two other brand new Las Vegas venues- RPM at the Tropicana and Hyde at the Bellagio.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department, along with other local agencies, worked to maintain safe conditions where people celebrated and on local roads.
Several road closures impacted traffic as all entrances to the Strip were shut down for several hours, but police reported no serious crashes as of midnight.
