Fatal stabbing may have resulted from lover's quarrel
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had some sorting out to do after finding a 25-year-old man with a stab wound in an apartment complex located near Swenson Street and East Twain Avenue on Tuesday morning.
LVMPD initially responded to the call as a possible home invasion.
However, it did not take them long to actually establish that the stabbing was a result of domestic violence and the man's girlfriend was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the charge of murder.
Tears line the face of 29-year-old Chamel Smith in her booking mug.
Neighbors say that it was not unusual to hear the couple fighting and that yesterday morning they were woken by screams just after 7 a.m.
Still, neighbors were surprised when the girlfriend was arrested for murder.
One neighbor, who lives just across from the apartment where the incident took place, said that she and her brother were both questioned by police.
She said that she told police that while things weren't exactly quiet upstairs, but she had no reason to suspect any type of abuse.
According to LVMPD, domestic violence against men is extremely rare and those cases resulting in death are even more unusual.
