Clark County, NV (KTNV) - A local teenager is in extremely critical condition after she was hit by a car. The accident happened the day after Thanksgiving in the northwest part of the valley.
Aleasha Billing, 16, is fighting for her life at University Medical Center. The Mojave High School sophomore is unconcious and on a respirator, with a severe head injury.
"It just happened so fast," says her cousin, Christopher Maston. "It really just came out of nowhere."
Chris was there, when Aleasha was hit by a car, while crossing Lone Mountain Road near El Capitan. So was Aleasha's little sister, Mellissa. They rushed to try and save her.
"As soon as I saw it, I just ran out and carried her out of the road," Chris says. "I stabilized her neck, and made sure she had a pulse and was breathing. I told someone else that had pulled over to call the ambulance."
The accident happened around 7:30 Friday night. The intersection has no street lights or crosswalk. But instead of letting themselves get frustrated over that, Aleasha's family is putting all their focus on her.
"She's not doing well right now," says her uncle Raymond Kaecker. "But the prayers are what are keeping her going, I know that. She's had two brain surgeries because she's bleeding in both sides of the brain. The left side of her brain is pretty damaged. Doctors don't give her a whole lot of hope."
But that's not wavering their faith in Aleasha.
"I just know that she's going to come through this," Raymond says. "She's a fighter."
"I just want her to wake up and be herself again because she's amazing," Christopher adds.
Aleasha's family says they are not mad at the driver. Police don't believe the woman was impaired or speeding. Other drivers in the area at the time told investigators they couldn't see the kids crossing either, because it was so dark.
The family has an account at Bank of America to help with expenses. Account number is 501012388329. The Routing number is 122400724.
