Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Three local programs are buying back Halloween candy for a good cause.

Miss Nevada Alana Lee and Griffiths Orthodontics are teaming up on Nov. 1 to buy back Halloween candy from the community for $1 per pund up to five pound to send to the troops overseas through Operation Gratitude along with letters the kids will be able to write on-site, thank military members for their service.

The event will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at Griffiths Orthodontics at 8710 W. Charleston Boulvard, Suite 150.

The second annual Cash for Candy Halloween Event is taking place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. today at Wagner Dental at 2054 Village Circle near Summerlin Library.

Wagner Dental will buy children's candy at the rate of one dollar, plus one raffle ticket for an iPod drawing, per pound. All the candy children exchange for cash will then be donated to U.S. troops in special care packages organized by Operation Gratitude.

Last year, Wagner Dental donated 550 pounds of Halloween candy to the troops through their Cash for Candy event.

The third event -- the Halloween Candy Buy Back Event -- will take place 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at Chenin Orthodontics at 10730 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson.

Children can bring in their extra cnady where it will be weighed on a scale. Children will be paid $1 per pound and receive a certificate for a free frozen yogurt at Golden Spoon. There is a 5 pound candy buy back limit to make sure everyone has a chance to participate, but there will be a special recognition for the children with the most candy turned in. Dental toothbrushes will be distributed as well.

The doctors and team will be in costume so children are welcome to wear their costumes as well.

The candy from this event will also be sent to troops overseas.
