Veracruz, Mexico (AP) -- Mexican authorities have identified two Americans killed in the crash of a small plane as a married couple from the state of Nevada.

Veracruz state official Noemi Guzman says the pilot of the plane was Gerald Reggie Henkart who was traveling with his wife Andrea Henkart. She said Monday that the couple was from Nevada but gave no other details.

Witnesses reported the plane appeared to have mechanical problems before it crashed Sunday morning in the city of Angela R. Cabada in Veracruz state.

FAA records show the Cessna 210 was registered to a Gerald Henkart.

A U.S. State Department official confirmed one of the plane passengers was a U.S. lawful permanent resident but referred all other questions to Mexican authorities.
