Las Vegas, NV (KTNV)-A teenage girl is laid to rest after her life is cut short by a brutal killer. Her parents speak out for the first time.
"The loss of our daughter has been tragic, it's been crushing, and heartbreaking for all of us," says Jennifer, Alyssa's mom.
The last time Alyssa spoke with her mom was the September 2, 2011 just after six in the evening. She called to say she'd be home in half an hour, but instead police say the 15-year-old ran into Javier Righetti. Behind bars, he has confessed to attacking, robbing, and then raping her. When he was done he says he stabbed her with a kitchen knife, and then burned her body with gasoline.
"Alyssa is now at peace. She sees everyone coming together to celebrate her life, sharing the memories through laughter and tears," says Jennnifer.
Since Righetti's arrest, Action News has learned this was not his first attack. Back in 2009 while only 17-years -old a school police report says he grabbed a girl inside a Centennial High School bathroom, holding her by the neck against a stall. The girl got away, but Righetti did not. He was charged with second degree kidnapping.
"More than anything this didn't happen in vain. She's saving lives. I mean...he needed to be detained. He needed to be put away so he doesn't do this to other people," says Jennifer.
At the funeral services friends and family of the Otremba's came from the local community and the Air Force community to which her dad has belonged for 12 years. Now they look for peace.
"Alyssa's beauty, her smile, her infectious laugh, her vibrant soul and her strength will heal and guide all of our hearts foverever," says Jennifer.
