Country Music Hall of Famer Mel Tillis is recovering in Nashville following heart surgery this past weekend.

Mel’s daughter, fellow country star Pam Tillis, released this statement Monday: "Over the weekend, Daddy required a routine heart procedure. He's doing fantastic and is expected to make a full recovery. In typical Mel Tillis fashion, he's already cutting up and cracking jokes with the nurses. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated."

The elder Tillis, who has recorded more than 60 albums, is best know for a string of No 1 hits in the 1970s including “I Ain’t Never,” “Good Woman Blues,” “Heart Healer,” “I Believe In You,” “Coca Cola Cowboy” and “Southern Rains.”

The singer, songwriter and actor joined the Grand Ole Opry cast in 2007, the same year he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In February 2012, President Obama awarded Mel the National Medal of Arts.

Fans are encouraged to visit meltillis.com for updates on his condition and upcoming tour dates. His next scheduled performance is a private party in Canada March 27. His regular tour dates are scheduled to resume April 4.
