Gary Allan, 'It Ain't the Whiskey' video pours on the heartache

Songwriter Cole Degges, who had a 2007 album on Columbia Records called "Cole Deggs & the Lonesome" (using a spelling for his last name that would make it easier to pronounce), had written a song at the time that was destined not to make the album. Instead, nearly eight years later it has become a much-buzzed-about song (and now video) for guitar-slinging country superstar Gary Allan.
The latest single from Gary's "Set You Free" album, "Whiskey" was co-written by Jim Daddario and Greg Barnhill. Gary was drawn to it, he told Billboard, because "it's so cutting, it's so truthful. It's a rare song."
The just-released video for the tune is an atmospheric black-and-white clip awash in cigarette smoke and heartbreak. Whether it's the whiskey's fault or not, the results are painful and memorable. Watch the video above.
