American Music Award performers that rocked the stage

  • Katy Perry opened up the show with an Asian inspired performance of "Unconditionally" complete with geisha's, pergolas and beautiful flowers and dancers. Getty Images

  • One Direction performed next with their new ballad "Story of My Life." Their performance was simple, with hanging lights which put the focus on the boy bands singing and excited all the teenage girls in the audience, which by the sound of them, made up most of the audience. Getty Images

  • Ariana Grande performed her song "Tattooed Heart" which has a '50s feel, and she even had duwop background singers too. Getty Images

  • Imagine Dragons did a combo of "Demons" and "Radioactive" with smoke and some explosive looking lights in the background. Getty Images

  • Ke$ha and Pit Bull took the stage to perform "Timber" with a disco ball, twerking dancers in fringe and fireworks. Getty Images

  • Justin Timberlake performed with the Tennessee Kids and introduced their song as one "about alcohol." Getty Images

  • Florida Georgia Line took the stage with Nelly to perform the best country rap fusion song of all time: "Cruise." Then they did a 180, and sang some of Nelly's "Ride With Me." Getty Images

  • Rihanna performed "Diamonds" before the presentation of her Icon Award. She had an entire orchestra set up on stage which gave a very regal feel. This was despite the fact that she looked like she really just wanted to break it down and do some dancing. Getty Images

  • Jennifer Lopez took the stage after appearing in commercials all night leading up to her performance. It was a tribute to Cuban culture and it was very fast and dance-y. Getty Images

  • One Big World and Christina Aguliera performed "Say Something" in a simple but beautiful performance. No theatrics or bells and whistles, just a piano and a spotlight. Getty Images

  • Kendrick Lamar performed "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice" with lots of smoke and his new protege Scissor. Getty Images

  • Lady Gaga and R. Kelly performed in a Marilyn Monroe and JFK inspired Oval Office set to Gaga's "Do What U Want." Getty Images

  • Luke Bryan performed after his win for Best Country Male and he sang "That's My Kind of Night." He shook his hips....and it was nice. Getty Images

  • TLC performed Waterfalls and everyone loved it. Really. Getty Images

  • Miley Cyrus performed "Wrecking Ball" and not only was there the Windows 95 space screen saver in the background, there was also a lip synching kitten that later cried diamonds. Cyrus also wore a cat inspired outfit that showed a little bit too much...At the end, the cat stuck out it's tongue and no one was harmed in the performance. That is definitely what we all have to be thankful for this year. Getty Images
