Man arrested for selling jars of brains on eBay

Here is a truly bizarre crime out of Indiana.

A 21-year-old is accused of stealing jars of brain tissue and other human tissues and putting them up for sale on eBay.

According to police, David Charles broke into the Indiana Medical History Museum and stole more than 60 jars.

He then put those jars on eBay. Perhaps even stranger is the fact that someone was willing to buy them.

According to CNN, the director of a museum received a call last month from a California man who told her that he paid $600 for six jars of brain matter.

He suspected the jars were stolen after he compared them to others on the museum website.

The jars were stolen from a warehouse for the museum, which contains thousands of jars of brain and other human tissue from autopsies performed on patients at the now-closed Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane.

Collecting bizarre items is not a new hobby, but it is one that has grown in recent years. In fact, eBay has a list of prohibited items such as skulls and skeletons, organs, waste products, body fluids and sperm.

Charles was arrested on Dec. 16 after agreeing to sell similar jars to an undercover officer. The sting operation went down at a local Dairy Queen.

Charles is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
