Howard Stern fan pranks MSNBC during plane crash coverage

By Joyce Lupiani. CREATED Jul 18, 2014

MSNBC was the victim of a prank phone call during Thursday's coverage of the Malaysian Airlines plane that was reportedly shot down over the Ukraine.

It happened during a report by MSNBC host Krystal Ball. The man identified himself as Staff Sgt. Michael Boyd and told MSNBC that was stationed at the U.S. embassy in the Ukraine. He claimed that he had witnessed the plane being shot down, and Ball introduced the caller as an "MSNBC exclusive."

When Ball asked him what he saw, he responded: "Well, I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky, and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern's ass."

Unfortunately, Ball did not catch what the man said and continued her line of questioning. The caller then began mocking Ball before she finally cut him off.

MSNBC told the Hollywood Reporter that it was an unfortunate incident and that the network immediately clarified what happened for their viewers.
