Heading into its 40th season, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" is reportedly shaking up its staff, including some of the cast. Newcomer Brooks Wheelan, 27, has already been fired.

A fresh face on the "Weekend Update" desk, Wheelan announced his abrupt employment status change on Twitter after appearing in only one season of the venerable show.

Cast members Noël Wells and John Milhiser will also not be returning to “SNL” next season, according to Deadline. Vulture.com reports “fellow rookies Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Sasheer Zamata are shoo-ins for next year, but still to be determined is the exact fate of Mike O'Brien.”

"Former 'SNL' cast members provide hope for future opportunity in his television career. In 2009, Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson were dropped from the show, but both can still be seen all over pop culture," reports CNN. "Watkins now stars on ABC's [recently cancelled] 'Trophy Wife' while Wilson went on to star as a lead actress in 'Happy Endings' for over 50 episodes."

"Fired twice during his time at 'SNL,' Chris Parnell now stars in [the also now cancelled] 'Suburgatory' and 'Glee,'" further reports CNN. "In 2010, 'SNL' cast member Jenny Slate was let go after cursing on the show. Her stint lasted only one season as well. She now stars in the critically-acclaimed movie 'Obvious Child.'"

"SNL" was launched in 1975 and has spawned incredible comedic talent including Will Ferrell and Tina Fey. The late-night skit comedy was just recently nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.
