Husker Position Battles

CREATED Aug. 18, 2013

Lincoln, NE - After two weeks of fall camp there are still plenty of Husker starting spots up for grabs.  Head Coach Bo Pelini believes some of the competition could linger into the season.  The defensive line seems to be almost completely wide open with as many as eight players battling for a spot.

Pelini also updated us on a little injury news.  Defensive tackle Kevin Williams will be forced to miss the season with a knee injury.  However, Pelini said it's a clean injury and it shouldn't affect his future career.  Defensive end Greg McMullen is expected to be back in practice on Monday after suffering a minor injury.  And tight end Jake Long is ahead of schedule recovering from his injury.  Pelini believes he will be ready to go for the first game.

The Associate Press also released their top 25 poll.  The Huskers checked in at 18th.  They are the third highest ranked team in the Big Ten.  Ohio State and Michigan are the only conference teams ranked ahead of the Huskers.
