Omaha, NE - The Creighton Bluejays returned to the hardwood this weekend. The Jays practiced for the first time as a member of the Big East. Creighton has just over a month to get ready for their upcoming season.
Creighton returns four of their five starters from last year's team. They also return key role players off the bench like Ethan Wragge and Avery Dingman. Doug McDermott is back to push his Creighton records to nearly unreachable levels, and key distributor Grant Gibbs is back for a sixth season. Austin Chatman and Jahenns Manigat will provide veteran leadership in the backcourt.
Creighton will have to replace big man Gregory Echenique. Will Artino is the early favorite to get the most playing time in the post.
The Jays will also feature a handful of newcomers. JUCO transfer Devin Brooks has been turning heads in open workouts. Head Coach Doug McDermott believes he might attack the basket better than anyone on the team.
Creighton's first regular season game of the year is November 8th against Alcorn State.
