Creighton Falls To Duke
Philadelphia, PA - On the precipice of history the Jays shooting touch disappeared. The best shooting team in the country only managed to make 30.2% of their shots. The most prolific three-point shooting team in Creighton history went a discouraging 2-19 from beyond the arc. And the team that many thought would be Creighton's first sweet sixteen team since the field expanded fell 16 points shy of Duke.
The Blue Devils used created defenses to keep Doug McDermott and the Jays off their game all night long. McDermott scored 21 points, but he only shot 4-16 from the field. No one else on the team even managed to get into double digits.
The loss dropped Creighton's season record to 28-8. It capped off a successful season which saw them win the conference regular season and tournament titles. They earned a seven seed in the tournament which was their highest seed since Kyle Korver was still wearing a Bluejay uniform.
Now, Creighton fans will wait. They will wait on McDermott's decision. Will he or won't he go pro? After the game he was still undecided. Creighton fans will also wait for this fall when they begin play in a new conference with new challenges. The Jays may have ended their Missouri Valley era and maybe the Doug McDermott era with a loss. But, they will begin a new era as a major conference school before the end of the year.
