Omaha, NE - The Bluejays made it official and announced their intentions to move to the new Big East conference. The 10-team conference has signed a 12-year deal with Fox Sports 1 to broadcast their men's basketball games. The station also plans to broadcast some of the other sports.
The move helps Creighton shed that mid-major status by moving them into a major conference with a multi-million dollar television deal as a revenue source. The new conference features some very good basketball on the men's and women's side. It's also a fantastic soccer conference which matches up with Creighton's powerhouse program. The volleyball league is similar to the M-V-C talent-wise. Baseball is a slight step back, but there are still competent programs in the Big East.
The Missouri Valley wished the Jays well, and they are planning to fill Creighton's spot this summer. Denver, Belmont, Oral Roberts, Loyola, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee are just a few schools that have been mentioned for the opening.
