McDermott Named Larry Bird Award Winner

OMAHA, Neb. -- Doug McDermott became the eighth player in Missouri Valley Conference history to repeat as Larry Bird Player of the Year and teammate Ethan Wragge earned Sixth Man of the Year honors to highlight Creighton's awards haul announced by the league office on Tuesday.
McDermott was also named First Team All-MVC for the third time, while senior teammates Gregory Echenique and Grant Gibbs were Honorable-Mention All-Valley honorees for the first time. Echenique also landed a spot on the MVC's All-Defensive Team for the third straight campaign.
McDermott ranks second nationally in scoring average (23.4) and points scored (724) and is first with 252 field goals. He was named MVC Player of the Week a record eight times in 2012-13 and National Player of the Week twice. McDermott has been named a finalist for several National Player of the Year accolades, and last month became the first junior in league history to be reach 2,000 career points.
