McDermott In The Running For The Wooden Award
Creighton forward Doug McDermott was part of the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, announced today by The Los Angeles Athletic Club on ESPNU's The Experts sports talk show.
Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the list is made up of 25 student-athletes who, based on their performances in November, December, and the beginning of January, are the frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor.
McDermott is a sophomore who leads the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring (24.3), rebounding (8.5), double-doubles (6), field goal percentage (.621) and three-point percentage (.532). He ranks second nationally in scoring and 11th in field goal percentage. His 44 points at Bradley on Jan. 9 are the most in the nation in one game by any player this season. On Jan. 15, he became the nation's only active sophomore to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
