Omaha, NE -- Caroline Richardson, 54, is accused of stealing over $4 million and now faces tax fraud charges.
She is charged with three counts of income tax evasion and three counts of filing a false tax return.
Lee Polikov, the Sarpy County Attorney, said she stole the money while working at Colombo Candy and Tabacco Wholesale, and she didn't report it as income on her tax return.
Sarpy County says in 2010, Richardson misappropriated nearly $600,000. In 2011, it was over $2.8 million, and last year, she stole more than $640,000.
"It's rather straight forward," said Polikov. "The Department of Revenue did an extremely good job of giving us detailed info that we will be able to use as evidence to prove the case."
While the business she stole from is in Douglas County, she is being charged for tax related felonies in Sarpy County because that is where she lives.
"We are continuing to meet and talk about maybe Sarpy County adopting the embezzlement charge," said Polikov. "We need to find a legal way to do that through jurisdiction."
Richardson has not yet been charged with stealing the money itself.
Polikov says his office is working in conjunction with the Douglas County Attorney's Office to see if more charges will be filed.
