CREATED Aug. 30, 2013
LINCOLN - University of Nebraska-Lincoln officials are urging fans to protect themselves Saturday from extreme heat during the Nebraska football game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
The Huskers will kick off the season at 7 p.m. against the University of Wyoming. Stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m. - when forecasts predict the heat index will be at 103 degrees.
Officials say fans at the stadium should drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and sugary drinks, try to stay in shade and wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
Water fountains are located on the main concourses, and two large, portable water fountains also will be added Saturday at either end of the stadium.
Fans also will be allowed to bring commercial bottled water containers of up to 20 ounces into the stadium.
