Thieves Target Moving Trailers

Council Bluffs, IA - Thomas Harris knows a few things about moving. This is his third time moving a grandchild into college. His granddaughter didn't pack light for Iowa Western. The trailer, packed with furniture and clothes. "She probably changes clothes like four or five times a day," said Harris.
He made the trip to Council Bluffs from his home in Milwaukee. He's no stranger to the open road. "I've been everywhere I want to go but heaven so I've been traveling all over the United States and I've never had anything stolen," said Harris. He's one of the lucky ones. Last week Council Bluffs released this photo, of the U-Haul trailer, stolen from a Council Bluffs Motel 6. In May, another U Haul trailer was stolen from the same motel. Both were found in Omaha, burned. And last month Council Bluffs Police recovered a stolen U Haul out of Page County.
Police say moving trailers are a good target since they're normally packed with valuables. "I always try to park under the window where I am staying and usually it's light," said Harris. Police say that's key, park in a well light parking lot that has traffic. Try to park as close to the hotel lobby as possible and take jewelry and other valuables with you. Police are still trying to figure out who stole all three of those moving trailers. If you know anything you're urged to call the police.
