The Art of Coffee Brewing in Omaha

Omaha, NE -- There is something about a good cup of coffee. "I have a real passion for it," said Caroline Hurley who loves to drink it and make it. "I've been a barista on and off for about 15 years." She opened Carousel Coffeehouse inside Omaha's Cuppycakes Sweet Boutique three weeks ago. "I was looking for a friend of mine, for her birthday and nobody in town had a pink cupcake. I could not find a pink cupcake anywhere and Sherry just made one on the spot."
And so the relationship started over a cupcake and good cup coffee. "It's sort of like being a mixoligist I feel." Hurley makes her own creations - from hand crafted syrups and sauces. The sizes are bit smaller but the taste is a lot bolder. The creativity is quite obvious.
She moved to Phoenix to get a handle on the art of brewing. She heated up her taste buds in the desert and brought the art of coffee making to Omaha. "The correct way of doing things, like the timing of the shots and the way that you foam the milk can either make or break a drink and it can be so much better than what we're used to."
She says at this point there's a small coffee movement in Omaha but she's convinced the cup will run over, hoping customers will appreciate her creativity with caffeine. "It's not like people will come in and we'll say you can't have that. We'll fix it up however you like it. As sweet and non-coffee as you want but at the same time you're probably going to get a lecture."
