Omaha, NE - Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning held a news conference Friday afternoon to update the public about the murder of Andrea Kruger.
Dunning said they have no suspects in custody and have not made any arrests. He would not comment about whether they have any people of interest in the case.
He said, "we have a killer on the loose" and categorized this homicide as "purely random." Dunning went on to give people tips to stay safe. Those included: do not take unnecessary risks, use a buddy system, be suspicious, keep car keys in your hand for quick entry, keep your hands free by not carrying too many belongings and immediately report any unusual activity to authorities.
The 33-year-old mother of three was found shot to death on the road at 168th and Fort early Wednesday morning. She was bartending at the Deja Vu nightclub and locked up around 1:47 a.m. that morning. Authorities believe she was shot approximately 21 minutes later. Her Chevy Traverse was recovered miles away at 43rd and Charles.
Dunning said they are combing the various scenes and looking through evidence. They have received about a dozen tips in this case, but need more. They haven't been able to identify a second vehicle that was heard leaving the scene. If you have any information call the Douglas County Sheriff's Tip Line at 402-444-6000.
"We know that there was another vehicle that left the scene northbound on 168th St. and we need to identify that vehicle. That may or may not have anything to do with this, but we won't know that until we find that vehicle," Sheriff Dunning explained.
Meantime family and friends have been gathering to honor Kruger's life and stand up to the violence. Watch our coverage of Thursday evening's prayer walk.
