Pledge of Allegiance Debate
The Sioux Falls, SD school board is taking a lot of heat after making the decision to not set aside time for the Pledge of Allegiance at their high schools .
Just one day after Veterans day, about a half a dozen uniformed veterans addressed school board members, asking them to set aside the time for students to say the pledge each day. Their request was denied.
The explanation did not sit well with the veterans in attendance and many in the community. School board members told the veterans there wasn't enough time for high school students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day.
The board did expanded its policy to require middle school students to recite the pledge daily. Elementary schools have been doing it for years.
The group of veterans behind the push says they will continue to fight to get that time set aside at the high school level.
