Players, Fans Prepare For Kickoff

Omaha, NE- In just a few weeks, Husker football will be back in action. Fans have high hopes for the upcoming season with the pre-season coaches poll putting big red at number 18.
Over 6 thousand fans got the chance to meet the players Friday during Husker Fan Day 2013.
It was a sea of red in Memorial Stadium Friday afternoon as fans gear up for what they hope is a successful season.
"Just the environment of football at the stadium and everything, it's just great." says Jill Miller of Omaha.
"I just want them to do good, better than last year." says Husker fan John Schafer.
The Huskers are ranked 18th in the USA Today Sports Pre-season Coaches Poll.
"I'm excited at we're in the top 25 and I'm exited to know some of those guys ahead of us out." says Tim Svoboda of Lincoln.
"I think it's going to be great I think Taylors' going to really excel this year, this is going to be his year and admire too I think he's going to be really good so I think we're going to do really well." says Diane Grudle who drove to Lincoln from Crescent Iowa for Husker Day.
River Johnson injured his leg in a boating accident and came to fan day straight from the hospital, but that's not his biggest worry.
"Seeing Nebraska run without Rex Burkhead, see how they do." says Johnson.
Coach Bo Pelini has high hopes for the season as well.
"We're looking forward to the challenges we have a chance to be a good team, it'll be a challenge every week, we've got a lot of work ahead of us." says Coach Pelini.
Quarterback Taylor Martinez has high hopes as well.
"Just go out there and just try and win every time and win one game at a time."
Greeting players and fan this year will be new turf in Memorial Stadium and the newly expanded east stadium. The expansion will increase seating by about 6 thousand.
The Huskers open their 2013 season August 31st against Wyoming at Memorial Stadium.
