Pivonka Family Thankful for Community Support

By Kelly Bartnick. CREATED Jul 29, 2014

OMAHA, NE – Family members of the Omaha couple killed in a weekend crash say they’re grateful to the community for all the support.

Frank and Yvonne Pivonka drove to a concert in West Point Saturday. They never made it back to Omaha. Cuming County deputies found their crashed SUV Monday morning. Both the husband and wife were thrown from the vehicle and died.

The Pivonka’s left behind seven children—the oldest 20, the youngest 3. Two of them and their sister, Cathy Cattlett, spoke about the past two days, the generous financial gifts from people across the metro, and the work planning the couple’s funeral.

“It’s just really hard for my younger siblings,” Angel Pivonka said, “We’re all trying to stay strong for the little ones.”

Funeral arrangements were finalized Wednesday. Frank and Yvonne Pivonka will have a joint service Saturday, August 2 at King of Kings Church in Omaha. A viewing is also scheduled for Friday night.

“We were [at the funeral home] today picking things out and making arrangements. And it still didn’t feel real. It didn’t feel like we should have been there,” said Yvonne Pivonka’s sister, Cathy Cattlett.

“It feels like I’m going to wake up from this bad dream,” said Sabrina Pivonka, “I feel like it’s not going to settle in until the funeral. And then it’s just going to hit really hard.”

The family did not have life insurance. Funds have been set up at Centris Credit Union, and also online. Friends of the couple have planned a benefit at Chrome Lounge in Ralston this weekend. Click here for more information.
