Omaha, NE -- Parents are challenging the state's truancy law and how it can harm families. They brought up concerns at a town hall meeting Thursday night with the OPS Board and other elected leaders. The Excessive Absenteeism Law took effect in 2009. It makes missing more than 20 days of school a crime, even if it's excused- like during extended illnesses. Some parents say it has a negative impact on minorities and the poor.
