October Tornadoes Rare But Not Unheard Of In Nebraska
Lincoln, NE - The storm system that damaged several towns in eastern Nebraska may have spawned a tornado. The National Weather Service will survey the damage today and confirm that.
Tornadoes in October are rare, but not that unusual. Typically tornadoes hit Nebraska most frequently in June. But records show twisters hitting the state in October as well. In fact, 18 tornadoes were confirmed in October 2000, 11 in 2001 and 10 in 1998.
The month with the fewest recorded tornadoes is February.
