Nikko Jenkins To Request Bench Trial

Nikko Jenkins To Request Bench Trial

By Ashlee Pitzl. CREATED Mar 19, 2014

Omaha, NE (KMTV) - Accused killer Nikko Jenkins will request a judge rule in his case, not a jury.

Douglas County Court Bailiff Scott Srb confirms to KMTV Action 3 News that Jenkins must make the verbal request before Judge Peter Bataillon, and he will do that at a hearing next week.

Last week, Judge Bataillon ruled Jenkins can fire his counsel and represent himself.  The court will appoint him an attorney to aid in his defense.

Also last week, the man accused of giving Jenkins a gun police believe he used in some of the murders was acquitted.  Anthony Wells opted for a bench trial as well. The judge ruled there was not enough evidence to prove Wells gave the gun to Jenkins, even though he was in the hotel room when the transaction took place.

Police believe Jenkins went on a 10-day killing spree last summer, just days after his release from prison.  Jorge Ruiz,  Juan Pena, Curtis Bradford and Andrea Kruger died.
