Nebraska Men Resume Shuttle for Bar Patrons

CREATED Nov. 12, 2013
NEBRASKA CITY - Two men have resumed their free shuttle service for patrons of Nebraska City bars.
Travis Gillespie and Frank Trombino had begun the service in February but were ordered to halt in March.

The Nebraska Public Service Commission said the tips and donations the men accepted for their Safe Ride Shuttle Service put their operation into a commercial category.

That required higher insurance coverage and special permits.
The men have raised their insurance coverage to $1.5 million and registered as a for-hire service so they can charge passengers if they wish to do so someday.

For the moment, they charge a penny a ride that they say they're not collecting from the riders.
The service resumed this month, running overnight on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
