Family and friends tell us that the victim was only five-years-old and had just finished eating her breakfast when bullets began hitting her North Omaha home.
Community advocates tell us the little girl was related to Omaha City Council member Ben Gray.
When officers got to the scene around ten this morning they found the young girl, who had been hit by a stray bullet.
The child was taken to Alegent Creighton in extremely critical condition. A short time later she was pronounced dead.
The little girl’s cousin, Massey Allen, who was nearby at the time of the shooting says he believes the suspect or suspects were firing shots at a man running by the little girl’s home and her house just happened to get hit.
Allen says he heard what seemed like 20 rounds fired. Allen says this violence in his neighborhood has got to stop before even more innocent lives are taken.
“It's time to grow up, get you a job, there's innocent kids dying, it's time to get your life together. You gotta pick the can up, pick the can up, five cent might add up to 20 dollars one day. You gotta crawl before you walk, it's time to get it,” said the victim’s cousin, Massey Allen.
