Omaha, NE-Move over Rin Tin Tin and Lassie, you ain't got nothing on Rocky the Belgian Malinois. The pup, 10, is a dedicated officer of the law who just won't quit, and he's passing on the legacy to his kids.
Retired Sergeant Ed Van Buren, Rocky's handler, has begun training dogs for k-9 officers all throughout the Midwest. Rocky's puppies, now two, are serving a protecting from Kansas to South Dakota.
"You can test the puppies at a very young age, seeing what they retrieve, hunt drive," Van Buren says.
He adds the most rewarding part is also the hardest, watching the pups grow up and go on their own way.
"You can mold them. You can work with them, and you can see the potential that they have. You can see what they are going the be when the grow up," he said.
